Considering the various drug interactions, you must tell your doctor about any other medication you are on or might be on. Generic Carafate contains aluminum. Hence anyone with a kidney problem will be unable to process the aluminum from their body. Especially elderly people are at a higher risk considering their kidneys often don’t function properly. Also, consult your doctor if you are pregnant or are breast feeding. Although as of yet no side effects have been recorded in pregnant women, it is advisable to let your doctor know, just in case.
Do not take other antacids as they also contain aluminum. The low level of aluminum in Generic Carafate is easily removed by a healthy kidney. However, if you take other antacids then the level of aluminum in the body will increase.
